The Noble Horse:
Even the Lipizzaner horses enjoy a level of comfort here that the founding Kaiser could only have dreamed of in 1881!

There are not many opportunities to experience the famous Lipizzaner horses close up. You can see them in all their splendour at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna of course, but nowhere can you get closer than here at the Achenkirch private stud; you can simply wander into the stables and meet some fine and noble examples of this elegant breed.

The story of Lipizzaners at Achenkirch all started with one Lipizzaner stallion, Siglavy Storia, from the Spanish Riding School. He was lucky enough to move to the peace and quiet of the Tyrolean Alps. More Lipizzaners followed from Vienna, but also from Piber (where the breed was founded) and Hungary. And so the largest private stud of Lipizzaners evolved and now offers horse lovers the most perfect riding experience. The stud farm is now world famous among Lipizzaners stud experts. For example the stallion Siglavy Storia is regularly used by the renowned Slovakian stud farm Topol'cianky to ensure top class off-spring.

All in all, about 40 Lipizzaners can be found in the stables and in the lush fields surrounding the hotel. Many of these are available to guests for riding. Rides out are offered throughout the year in addition to lessons for beginners through to experts.

Carriage driving instruction is also available and the hotels has teams of Haflingers and Lipizzaners.
