  1. Making your booking.

Reservations / bookings can be made online. You may also print out our booking form and fax it to us or send it by post to the Austrian office. Once we have received the completed reservation / booking form, we will check availability and send you a quote with a holiday reference number by email. To secure your holiday, you will then be required to pay a deposit of £200 per person (or half the cost of the holiday, whichever is lower). You may then book your flights and forward the details to us so that we can organise your airport transfers. The balance of the holiday cost must be received by us not less than eight weeks prior to departure. The payment date will be shown on the booking confirmation. We are happy to accept last minute bookings (subject to availability) with full payment.

  2. How to pay.

Payments can be made on this website through our secure server using Visa, Mastercard, Switch and Maestro cards. You may also print out our booking form and fax your card details to us. We accept cheques, made payable to Austrian Adventures Ltd, which should be sent to our UK office:

  3. Changes or cancellation by you.

You, or any member of your party, may cancel your holiday at any time providing that the cancellation is made by the person who is the lead contact on the booking form and is communicated to us in writing. As this incurs administrative costs, we will retain your deposit and in addition may apply cancellation charges up to the maximum shown below. They will come into effect the day written notice is received by The Riding Company.

These charges are shown as a percentage of the total holiday cost payable by the person(s) cancelling excluding insurance premiums and any amendment charges:

    • More than 56 days before departure: Deposit (including insurance fees)
    • 43-56 days: 40%
    • 22-42 days: 60%
    • 9-21 days: 80%
    • 1-8 days: 100%

Depending on the reason for your cancellation, you may be able to claim these amounts under the terms of your insurance policy. Please note that insurance premiums are non-refundable.

If any member(s) of your party is / are prevented from travelling (due to illness, bereavement, redundancy etc...), the person(s) concerned will be able to transfer their place to someone else (who has the appropriate riding ability for the booked arrangements) providing we are notified of the transfer(s) in writing not less than two weeks before departure. An amendment charge of £35 will be made.

  4. Changes by us.
    1. We reserve the right to advise you of a change to your holiday both before and after you make a reservation. In the unlikely event that an amendment made prior to departure is such that it is deemed to be significant by The Riding Company (for example a change of dates or a change in accommodation standards) you will have the right to cancel the holiday if you choose. Should you cancel in such circumstances you will receive a full and prompt refund (excluding insurance premiums). Alternatively, you may choose to accept the changed arrangements or purchase an alternative holiday, of a similar standard to that originally booked. If the chosen holiday is less expensive than the original, we will refund the difference but if it is more expensive, you may be asked to pay the difference.
    2. Provision of Services: If, whilst on holiday, we find that it is not possible to provide a significant proportion of the services which we agreed to provide to you or we become aware we will be unable to, we will make suitable arrangements at no extra cost to you for the continuation of your holiday. We will also, where appropriate, compensate you for the difference between the services agreed to be supplied and those actually supplied. Where we cannot make such alternative arrangements, or where these arrangements are not reasonably acceptable to you, we will, where appropriate, arrange for you to return to the location from which you started your holiday with us (eg: the arrival airport in Austria) and will, where appropriate, pay you compensation for the services not provided.
    3. The Riding Company cannot pay expenses, costs or losses incurred by you as a result of any change or cancellation and shall not be liable for any refund should The Riding Company be forced to cancel or change your holiday due to circumstances amounting to Force Majeure. Such circumstances shall include, but are not limited to, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorism, industrial disruption, natural disasters, fire, technical problems, adverse weather, governmental action and similar events beyond our control.
    4. On all tours the itinerary may be changed by us or our suppliers depending upon prevailing circumstances, to include adverse weather conditions, strikes and safety reasons, at the discretion of the guide or personnel of The Riding Company.
  5. Cancellation by us.
    1. Although this is extremely unlikely, we reserve the right to cancel your holiday for the dates you have reserved.
    2. If you fail to pay the balance of the booking price or other costs before the due dates, or do not arrange insurance cover, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation.
    3. In the unlikely event that we have to cancel your holiday, you will be entitled to a full refund, minus any insurance premiums, and not in circumstances laid out in clause 4c. No refund or compensation is paid if the holiday is cancelled because full payment has not been received in time.
  6. Price guarantee.

Once your holiday has been booked and paid in full its price will be fixed, in spite of any currency fluctuations. However, we reserve the right to amend our tariffs at any time before you make your final booking and you will be notified whenever any such amendment has been made.

  7. Your responsibilities.
    1. It is your responsibility to ensure that documents are in proper order before travel. You must check passport and visa requirements with the Embassy or Consulate of the country or countries you wish to visit. The Riding Company accepts no liability for any loss or inconvenience caused as a result of your failure to take reasonable care in this respect. If failure to have any necessary travel or other documents results in fines or any other financial penalty being imposed on us, you will be responsible for reimbursing us accordingly. Holders of an EEA (EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) or Swiss passport do not require a visa. Holders of British passports do not need a visa for Austria. There are no restrictions on the remaining validity of your passport, providing you leave Austria before its expiry date.

    2. It is your responsibility to be fit and able to pursue the level of riding for which you are signed up for. Our guides reserve the right to assign you to a different group or prevent you from riding, if he or she feels it is necessary for whatever reason, without compensation. Certain holidays are not suitable for riders over 90 kilos, due to the build of the horses. Please contact us if you wish to discuss which rides are suitable.
    3. The client is responsible for any missed transfers. Please inform the local office of any delays. We regret that we are not in a position to offer you any assistance in the event of delay at your outbound or homeward point of departure.
    4. You should inform us in writing at the time of booking if you have any medical problem or disability which may affect your booked arrangements. If we feel unable to properly accommodate your particular needs, we must reserve the right to decline / cancel your booking. Any special requests should also be noted in writing at the time of booking. While we will advise our suppliers of such requests, we can never guarantee their availability.
    5. All activities are undertaken at the risk of the client. The Riding Company cannot be held responsible for any injury or illness to the client during the holiday.
    6. Communication of Information: All communications with you (including information relating to the security we have taken out against our insolvency, information about travel arrangements and contact details and any other notices which we provide you with) will be sent to the person who is the lead contact on the booking form. It is your responsibility to ensure that all members of the group receive a copy of all such communications and you must indemnify us for any failure to do so.
  8. Our responsibilities.
    1. We promise to make sure that the holiday arrangements we have agreed to make, perform or provide as applicable as part of our contract with you are made, performed or provided with reasonable skill and care. We will only be responsible for what our employees, agents and suppliers do or do not do if they were at the time acting within the course of their employment (for employees) or carrying out work we asked them to do (for agents or suppliers). We will not be responsible for any injury, illness, death, loss (for example loss of enjoyment), damage, expense, cost or other sum or claim of any description whatsoever which results from any of the following:
      1. the act(s) and / or omission(s) of the person(s) affected or any member(s) of their party or
      2. the act(s) and / or omission(s) of a third party not connected with the provision of your holiday and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable or
      3. 'force majeure' as defined in clause 4c
    2. We cannot accept responsibility for any services which do not form part of our contract. This includes, for example, any additional services or facilities which your hotel or any other supplier agrees to provide for you where the services or activities have not been agreed or organised by The Riding Company.
    3. The promises we make to you about the services we have agreed to provide or arrange as part of our contract and the laws and regulations of the country in which your claim or complaint occurred will be used as the basis for deciding whether the services in question had been properly provided. If the particular services which gave rise to the claim or complaint complied with local laws and regulations applicable to those services at the time, the services will be treated as having been properly provided. This will be the case even if the service did not comply with the laws and regulations of the UK which would have applied had those services been provided in the UK.
    4. We will not be responsible where you do not enjoy your holiday or suffer any problems because of a reason you did not tell us about when you booked your holiday or where any problems you suffer did not result from any breach of our contract or other fault of ourselves, or, where we were responsible for them, our suppliers or agents or where any losses, expenses, costs or other sum you have suffered relate to any business.
    5. We cannot accept any responsibility for any claim based on any travel arrangements provided by any air, sea, rail or road carrier or any stay in a hotel.
    6. Special requests: If you have any special requests, you must inform us at the time of booking. We will advise our suppliers of such requests, but the Riding Company/Austrian Adventures Ltd accepts no liability to you, if such requests are not met.
  9. Transport.
    1. It is your responsibility to make your group’s travel arrangements to an airport from where The Riding Company can arrange a hotel transfer for you. Please inform us of your own flight arrangements at least four weeks prior to departure, requesting any transfers if applicable.
    2. The Riding Company cannot accept responsibility for guests missing flights for any reason or mislaying or destroying travel documents, and no credit or refund will be given if you fail to take up a component of your holiday as a result.
    3. The Riding Company is not responsible for any flight delays but where possible will endeavour to provide any previously booked hotel transfers.
  10. Any problems.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your holiday, you must address your complaint immediately to the local service provider, usually the hotel manager (verbally and in writing). If your complaint or problem is not resolved to your satisfaction straight away, you must contact the Austria Area Manager with full details by telephone or fax within 48 hours. In the unlikely event that your problem cannot be resolved locally, you must inform The Riding Company in writing of your complaint within 30 days of your return so that any rights to compensation can be examined.

If, despite our best efforts and having followed the above procedure for reporting and resolving your complaint, you feel that it has not been satisfactorily settled, we recommend that it is referred for arbitration under the ABTOT Travel Industry Arbitration Service. An Independent Arbitrator will review the documents relating to any complaint and deliver a binding decision to bring the matter to a close. This scheme cannot decide in cases where the sums claimed exceed £1500 per person or £7500 per booking form, or for claims which are solely or mainly in respect of physical injury or illness or the consequence thereof.

  11. Riding with The Riding Company.
    1. It is the responsibility of you and your group to judge the suitability of each area in which you ride. If you or any member of your group ride in a location on the recommendation of or accompanied by any representative of The Riding Company, The Riding Company will not be liable for any injuries howsoever caused.
    2. The staff at the riding centres reserve the right to modify the holiday of any rider who, in their opinion, proves to be unsuitable for the ride chosen. In this unlikely event, any additional costs will be borne by the client. It is the responsibility of the client to behave in a suitable manner at all times and to follow the advice and instructions of the guide.
    3. The pace of the riding is always determined by the guide, who also reserves the right to change the itinerary or cancel a trip due to adverse weather or safety. In such circumstances no refund will be offered.
    4. The amount of riding is stated in the details for each holiday. Additional lessons or rides are possible and can be paid for locally.
  12. Insurance.

Riding is a high-risk adventure activity. All activities are undertaken at the risk of the client. The Riding Company cannot be held responsible for any injury or illness to the client during the holiday. We insist that all people travelling with us have accident and personal injury insurance. We also strongly recommend that you have cancellation insurance for your holiday and flight in case you have to cancel for any reason.

We are able to organise holiday insurance for clients through the specialist travel insurance brokers Campbell Irvine Ltd, who are based at:

    48 Earls Court Road
    Kensington
    W8 6EJ
    United Kingdom

Cover is effected with AXA Insurance UK PLC. If you would like to see details of the cover and premiums for travel and medical insurance, please refer to our insurance page on this website.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): The old E111 form which entitled free or reduced medical treatment across the EU has been replaced by the credit-card sized EHIC. This can be obtained free from the Department of Health website, by phone on 0845 606 2030 or, as before, from Post Offices. It lasts for one year. This should not replace travel insurance but can be used to show that you are an EU citizen entitled to be treated in hospitals on the same basis as the local people. You will still be expected to pay certain costs including prescriptions.

  14. Consumer protection.

As a member of the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT), an Association approved by the Department of Trade and Industry, this company has provided a Bond to meet the requirements of the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992. These regulations apply to packages sold in the UK and this Bond provides security for the money paid over by its UK customers and for their repatriation to the UK in the event of this company's insolvency.

  15. Conditions of suppliers.

Many of the services which make up your holiday are provided by independent suppliers. Those suppliers provide these services in accordance with their own terms and conditions. Some of these terms and conditions may limit or exclude the supplier’s liability to you, usually in accordance with applicable International Conventions. Copies of relevant parts of these terms and conditions are available on request from the supplier concerned.

  16. Privacy statement (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998).

We aim to take a responsible approach to all areas of our business. In order to process your booking, we need to collect certain personal details from you. These details will usually include the names and addresses of party members, credit / debit card or other payment details and special requirements such as those relating to any disability or medical condition which may affect the chosen holiday arrangements. If we need any other personal details, we will tell you before we obtain them from you. We need to pass on your personal details to the companies and organisations who need to know them so that your holiday can be provided (such as hotel or other supplier, credit / debit card company or bank). Apart from the exceptions outlined above, we will keep confidential all personal details you give us in connection with your holiday.

We do not sell or pass on for marketing purposes any information you pass to us. We may from time to time contact you with information about The Riding Company holidays. If you do not wish to receive any such information, please inform us.

  17. General.

Please note that if any of these Booking Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, then the remainder of these Booking Conditions will not be affected but will remain valid and enforceable.

  18. Website accuracy.

The information and prices shown on this site may have changed by the time you come to book your holiday. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the website and prices, regrettably errors do occasionally occur. You should therefore ensure you check all details of your chosen holiday (including the price) with us at the time of booking.
