The horses: 23 Lipizzaners including 2 stud stallions for breeding (40 more kept at another site). The "emperor's white horses" of the Hapsburg monarchy originate from the oldest cultured European breed of horses in Lipica, which is now in Slovenia. The Lipizzaner breed was created in 1580 through cross breeding with Spanish, Neapolitan and Arab horses on the initiative of Archduke Karl II. Karl Reiter who owns the hotel has set up his own stud on site and also keeps Icelandic ponies and Shetland ponies.
This is a place of calm and relaxation, the perfect 'deceleration' from our hectic modern way of life. Austria has a long tradition of healing spa resorts based around natural hot water springs with curative properties. The Supreme spa is built around one of these springs with thermal water from a depth of 896m of a glorious 32.6 degrees Celsius. It is said to be particularly suited to treat degenerative changes of the musculoskeletal system, particularly within the rheumatic sphere. It is also good for boosting energy levels and to improve general immunity.
Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools filled with natural healing thermal waters, outdoor whirlpool, numerous saunas and steam rooms, some with organic herbs or aromas, some with flat-screen TVs, pool bar with fresh juices and vitamin drinks. For relaxing, shuffle in your slippers (provided) to the chill-out room with music headphones or relax on a giant bean bag in the 'whisper room', help yourself at the health bar. Have breakfast by the pool in your toweling robe (provided) - no need to get dressed all day. Visit the Beauty Farm to sample the extensive range of products, massages and treatments for both men and women (some treatments can be given together). Hairdressers, skin and hair advice.
Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic Hatha Yoga style, here especially adapted to riders' needs. The Yoga postures ('Asanas') are practised in a precise defined sequence and connected fluently and dynamic with each other. At the same time we use specific yogic techniques: A special breathing ('Ujjayi'), energetic locks ('Bandhas') as well as defined gaze directions ('Drishtis'). The simultaneous application of all these Yoga techniques in connection with the Yoga postures demands a focused mind, which will increase the effect of each single component to create an energetic flow. Each breath initiates a movement, each movement is carried by the breath. The body floats on the breathing flow from one Yoga posture into the next.

This adult only hotel is truly fabulous and the staff were wonderful. I don't think you could have had a more luxurious accommodation. The room was large and had everything you need, The hotel has so many pools - thermal, salt, sport, hot and cold, Zen, etc. plus the steam rooms of all kinds, sauna and special showers. Chaise lounges abound in all these places indoor and outdoor and there are towels as many as you need. There is of course massage and treatments, etc. for which you pay extra just like the riding.
The food was so good. There was a buffet style breakfast with everything you could possibly think of to eat and some things you never thought you would eat plus a juice bar and Prosecco. Every night there was an exceptionally good 5 course dinner ( it could be 6 if you have cheese) in one dining room or a buffet style dinner in another with the option to eat indoors or outdoors. There is a view over farm land and the golf course. There are also activities such as tennis, hiking in the forest, beginners golf lesson for free, as well as music in the bar on some evenings etc.
The Horses: The stables are immaculate and the Lipizanners were beautiful.. They have 5 stalions and breed Lipizanner horses here so you can see the different ages and colours. The white ones are not born white. They also keep Hugulen ponies to ride.
For the week that I was there I booked a private lesson the first day and a group lesson and a hack every day after that. The problem was that only children from the sister family hotel were taking group lessons. Therefore, I was offered as an alternative of a 1/2 hour private lessons with Rudi, the boss of the stables, I was a much better rider when I left.
As a guest, who is not an experienced dressage rider, I did not ride the Stallions. I rode a mare, Beletria in the arena and a mare,Trompeta and a gelding, Neopolitano Batosta out hacking. This all worked very well. I had a private lesson every day and most days I had a private hack with Eva. She took a different route each day. ...I think the cost of the hotel and the riding are fantastic value and a wonderful experience. Any rider who wants to improve would benefit from the lessons and the wooded country side was a pleasure to ride through.

We had a marvellous experience with The Riding Company. Everything worked smoothly - from the help and advice we received from Penny Roberts during our booking, to the efficient airport transfer and the printed schedule of riding lessons upon arrival. It was undoubtedly one of the best holidays we've ever had. The Reiter's Supreme Hotel was very comfortable. It was extremely (unusually I believe) hot when we stayed there (35/36 degrees) and guests should note that the hotel is not air conditioned. However one quickly adjusts to this and because it is a quiet place we were able to sleep with our balcony windows open every night. The facilities in the hotel are very good - it is luxurious and well run. I was particularly impressed with the massages I had at Merkur Recreation (and having originally trained as a masseuse I think I know a little about this!). The food is very good - the breakfast and evening buffets are extensive and it is good there are two choices of evening restaurant included within the package. We dined in the a la carte restaurant one night (at additional cost) and found this to be excellent. All the hotel staff are very friendly and polite and speak very good English - we were impressed that they provided an English guide to the day's events and meals each day. Of course our favourite part was the riding! The stables at the Supreme Hotel are very well run, in my opinion, and the facilities are excellent. Although the staff at the riding school spoke less English than the hotel staff generally, we managed OK. Riding the lipizzaners was a wonderful experience! I couldn't believe my husband had his first actual riding lesson on a Lipizzaner stallion (I told him this was a little like having your first driving lesson in a classic ferrari), and "Nemo" was a perfect gentleman and looked after him throughout. Having booked just one lesson to begin with, John was soon hooked and insisted on lessons every day culminating in a hack out in the woods on our last day! For myself I had a marvellous time working hard during my morning lesson in the indoor school, cooling off in the pool during midday, and then a return to the stables for an afternoon hack in the woods each day. What could be better! We also enjoyed interacting with the horses, and the staff at the stables were verym happy for us to feed the horses apples, groom, tack them up etc under their supervision. My only regret is that we don't have such a marvellous riding stables anywhere in our vicinity at home in the UK. Thank you very much indeed for organising our holiday so well and making it such a great experience! I think we will be returning to the Supreme Hotel! I shall also wholeheartedly recommend The Riding Company to all my friends and colleagues.

It was such an amazing holiday.....We both loved the Supreme Hotel, it is top class.... Fantastic services and on a very personal level. Food was very good and plentiful (I never felt hungry). I loved the Spa and the massage therapists were very professional and in tune with all my problematic areas! I have come back refreshed and more chilled. The Lipizzaners are truly special and I ended up riding a stallion! Hacking in beautiful countryside was superb and the scenery was just breathtaking.

'I didn't just enjoy my trip, I loved every single minute of it. From all your help with booking, and advice on the best way to travel to and from the hotel, until the end of my stay there, everything was fantastic.
The Reiters Supreme hotel is five star through and through. The facilities are immaculate, the attention to detail is superb, the food was imaginative and delicious, and the staff were friendly, professional and attentive to just the right degree. One of the things that impressed me most was how many of the staff addressed the guests by name (and it is a big hotel) - including the first time they met you. I don't know how they managed that!
And the riding really was a dream come true. As a teenager, I dreamt of riding a Lipizzaner and, on my fiftieth birthday, I did! The stables at the hotel are amazing with every facility a horse could need. They focus mainly on breeding and use only the mares for riding. So I rode a bay and a grey mare. (Not all Lipizzaners are white!) They also breed Shetland ponies and miniature horses. I had a lesson on the first day and a hack through the forest for the following four days - taking different tracks each day. For every ride, it was just me and the instructor. And on the last day, we had a gallop along the side of a field.
I think I have probably run out of superlatives. I am so glad that Kat suggested this hotel instead of the one in Slovenia that I originally enquired about. I would, without hesitation, recommend the Reiters Supreme to anyone who wants to combine fabulous riding with total indulgence!
with very many thanks
